Counseling is the collaborative effort between client and therapist. Together we will determine the priorities and goals you have and discuss treatment modalities in a team effort to get forth our plan to help you meet your goals. You will be interviewed, perhaps answer questionnaires, and discuss with your therapist what you would like to achieve in counseling. Sometimes it is also a collaborative effort that includes your physician for medication management of a mood disorder. With medication stabilization we can add scientifically researched interventions that are practical steps toward your goals. The "Services" page on this website provides more information on treatment modalities. Most important in the process is the relationship and collaboration of client and therapist. It is my great honor to assist you in the growth you endeavor to achieve. All of the methods of counseling used at Thrive Clinical Counseling are scientifically researched and considered the gold standard of psychotherapy.
Sometimes people come for counseling not because of depression and anxiety so much as due to difficulties with other people or situations in their lives. We might need fresh new eyes or new solutions for pervasive or difficult to solve issues in our lives. This too is treated with collaboration and gold standard methods.

Social Anxiety - Social Phobia
People with social phobia have intense feelings of fear or terror when encountering social situations in which the individual is exposed to possible scrutiny by others. The fear of social exposure is out of proportion to the actual threat posed by the event or setting. This is a persistent fear that lasts longer than 6 months, and creates distress and problems functioning in everyday life. The distress can include panic attacks, and many of the same physical effects of panic such as shortness of breath and chest pain.
